Background
Across the world, people are increasingly struggling with weight gain and the medical complications related to this. More people are at risk of things like diabetes and heart disease because of this. Being diagnosed with acromegaly can also mean you have a higher risk of these conditions. The symptoms of acromegaly, such as fatigue, can make it hard to exercise, which can further add to this problem.
People living with acromegaly are not usually referred to a dietitian or lifestyle coach as part of their treatment, even though they have an increased risk of weight-related conditions.
Researchers at the Erasmus Medical Centre of Rotterdam want to find out more about patients’ experiences with this and have created a survey looking at nutrition and lifestyle patterns in people with acromegaly.
Aims of the survey
This survey wants to find out what patients think about how their acromegaly is treated, and their opinions on how nutrition and lifestyle habits should be managed. Specifically, the survey wants to know:
- Whether people with acromegaly pay (extra) attention to their diet and exercise
- The experiences and perceptions of this patient group
- What your wishes are, if any, relating to nutrition, lifestyle and your treatment
The survey has around 40 multiple-choice questions and takes about 20 minutes to complete.
