StaffThe Foundation employs the following staff:
Mrs Kit Ashley (Executive Director) - Kit started at The Pituitary Foundation in May 2005. Years ago, after graduating from Purdue University, she started working at charities at the Rocky Mountain Multiple Sclerosis Center in Denver, Colorado. She then moved on to the Colorado Neurological Institute (which wasn’t difficult as it was two floors above the MS Center!). With a heavy (but adventurous) heart, Kit left CNI to move to the UK to marry an Englishman and soon discovered sticky toffee pudding which meant she was going to stay awhile. After a brief, but successful stint as eBay Seller Extraordinaire (she paid for her wedding selling all of her husband’s ‘stuff’), she worked for a small community centre in Weston-super-Mare. However, Kit found that part–time didn’t suit her (with all the free time, she sold more of her husband’s stuff). She was delighted when she was chosen to join The Pituitary Foundation team as she’d had twelve years of healthcare not-for-profit experience that she could put to use. On her first weekend after joining the team, she went to AC Training in Birmingham and realised it wasn’t a team, it was a community, which made it even better! Mr Neil Jefferis (Finance Officer) - Neil has been at The Foundation, seemingly forever, and is a source of sometimes much needed historical data. Working just one day a week for us, he manages to cram in expense payments, invoice payments, payroll, finance input and monthly balancing, working closely with Steve and Janette. Neil works for a local firm of accountants during the rest of the week and over the years we have coaxed out of him that he is a renowned rabbit breeder and top judge at rabbit shows. A man of many talents. Mrs Pat McBride (Patient Support Manager) - Pat began her link with The Foundation back in 1995, as a Volunteer Area Co-ordinator, launching Liverpool Support Group in 1996. Pat’s pituitary condition of pituitary abscess, DI and high Prolactin was diagnosed in 1986 resulting in craniotomy surgery and Pat takes all replacement hormones to this day. Pat started as a Regional Co-ordinator working with Local Support Groups and on the Early Awareness Project (EAP). In August 2006, Pat became the Patient Support Manager (and likely, those of you who have been around for awhile will have noticed her making her mark) with responsibilities including the National HelpLine, Pituitary Life editor and our Telephone Buddy service. Mrs Alison Milne (Endocrine Specialist Nurse) - Alison was born and brought up in the Highlands of Scotland. She now lives in Aberdeenshire with her husband and two young daughters. The Foundation was lucky for Alison’s daughters, who took it upon themselves to create her work-at-home domain including do not disturb signs for the door so Alison could talk to patients without interruption. As ever, a family affair! Alison attended nursing college in Aberdeen and has over twenty years of varied nursing experience, predominantly in Endocrinology. She currently works as a part time Endocrine Specialist Nurse in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and is thoroughly enjoying her new (she started on the endocrine nurse helpline 29 October 2007) part time role with the Foundation. We’re pleased as punch to offer more endocrine helpline hours and to have Alison on board for extra hours to assist the staff. It felt like she was a long-time member of the team within minutes of arriving for her induction! Mrs Janette Moulds (Business Unit Co-ordinator) - Janette has worked for the Foundation since March 2005. She concentrates primarily on the business aspects of the organisation, but has spent much time on the patient helpline – and still sometimes stops everything to listen to and counsel a patient. Previous experience in working for a local fostering agency has engendered her with compassion and an urgency to get things done. Long ago, Janette was a member of the armed forces and has a claim to fame that she once held open a car door for Her Majesty, The Queen! Jan lives in the “café culture“ part of Bristol and does her bit for the environment by walking to and from work. Her favourite words, while in the office and wheeling and dealing with our vendors are, ‘We ARE a charity, you know!’ Ms. Helen Stewart (Service Support Assistant) – Helen joined The Foundation in August 2008 and has experience of being an ongoing pituitary patient with a current diagnosis of a Prolactinoma. Helen looks after ALL of our volunteers, works with Pat and Alison on patient support projects (such as answering the helpline, answering helpline emails and making certain information requests are dealt with promptly). Helen is very much looking forward to becoming a part of The Foundation and pituitary community. She’s lucky enough to live right by the River Avon where she enjoy walks and bike rides and she’s an avid reader of books and celebrity gossip magazines!! Helen is also a prolific watcher of all movies (and tells us her boyfriend forces HORROR films on her, but she’s getting used to them!). Mr Steve Ware (Business Manager) - Steve has worked for The Pituitary Foundation since April 2005. He previously had careers in Abbey and Royal & SunAlliance, deciding after redundancy to channel his general management skills into the charity sector. Steve looks after all business aspects for The Foundation three days a week and does voluntary work for a children’s safety charity in Bristol one day a week. Steve says “On the other weekday I have to do all the house work and shopping to make sure there’s nothing my full time working wife, Marion, has to do at the weekend!” Steve likes to liven up the office environment and is not averse to entertaining or playing the odd practical joke – on the basis that laughing makes working more enjoyable!
