Get active for Pituitary Awareness Week 2010!
Imagine the impact if each one of our members and supporters stepped out and supported Awareness Week. This year to mark Pituitary Awareness Week, we are asking you to step into action and ‘Walk for Awareness’.
Whether you walk a mile, ten miles or walk a marathon, we need you to get involved. Pituitary Awareness Week will be held from 18 to 25 September 2010.
During the most important week of the year for The Pituitary Foundation we are encouraging you to embrace this opportunity to strengthen our voice and raise awareness of pituitary conditions. Last year we saw various walks and other events across the country and reports of nearly 400 campaign letters sent to GPs and local ambulance services. We need even more of you to take action now than ever before! We are simply asking you to organise a walk. It is a great way to get your friends, family and work colleagues involved too and collect sponsorship for your efforts. Here are some ideas to help you get started: 1. Stroll a mile. 2. Midnight marathon walk. 3. For a tougher challenge, climb a mountain or hike a hill. 4. Lunch walk - get away from the office at lunch time and walk a mile with colleagues. 5. Walk 5k around your local park followed by a picnic. 6. Walk to work - leave your car at home for one day and walk to work. 7. Organise a beach walk and take in scenic views and sea air. 8. Walk 10 miles on a treadmill in the gym. 9. Organise a walkathon at school. 10. Three-legged walk. 11. Make a day of it and stroll around the grounds of a National Trust property or visit a National Park or nature reserve in your area. Every step you make and every penny raised will raise awareness and support us to make real, positive change to the pituitary journey. This year’s event will take place on Sunday, 12th September, everyone can take part of any age and you can choose to walk a mile or up to 5 miles around the park. Pituitary Foundation’s Strawberry Line Walk, North Somerset, Saturday, 18 September 2010 Get walking with us along the Strawberry Line Heritage Trail in North Somerset. The six mile walk will start in Yatton and end in Winscombe, taking in some beautiful scenery along the way. You can join the walk several places along the way (for instance, you can walk two miles if that better suits your fitness level). Cherry Hinton Hall, Cambridge, Sunday, 26 September 2010 The Cambridge Local Support Group will again be organising a walk around the scenic Cherry Hinton Hall. Last year walkers raised over £1,300. Registration will be at 10:30am, with the walk starting at 11:00am and then rounding off the day with a well deserved lunch at a local venue. Every walker taking part in one of the above events will receive a free Pituitary Foundation T-shirt and information pack if you raise £25.00 or more.
