3rd Regional Conference - Cardiff, October 2008

(December 2008)

In October, we held our first-ever conference in Wales at the Quality Inn in Cardiff.  We had excellent attendance, with over 100 people there on the day.  The Cardiff Local Support Group worked dilligently to make this a success, assisting with grant-writing, getting the word out to make certain the conference was well-attended and they gave a warm welcome to all who arrived.  They also organised a tombola (that was cleared by the end of the day!) and the sale of some lovely jewellery.

The endocrine team from Cardiff University, lead by Prof. Maurice Scanlon, presented on in the morning.  The team managed to cover thorougly a wide range of pituitary topics in a short period of time.  These included Prof. Scanlon speaking about GH; Dr. Aled Rees on the subject of Testosterone replacement; Dr. Sam Rice informing us about DHEA and; Dr. Aled Roberts going over steroid replacement.  After lunch, Dr. Jonathan Pinkney gave us excellent insights into Pituitary and how the gland affects Your Weight.  After Dr. Pinkney, Ms. Emma Stiles, a nutritionist, gave fascinating and highly enjoyable talk about Pituitary and Nutrition.

It was a lovely day and it was exciting to see high attendance again at a conference.

We wish to thank the Cardiff Support Group for their hard work.  We also wish to thank the speakers for giving their time and expertise.  Lastly, we wish to thank Awards for All and Bayer Schering Pharma for their sponsorship.
